Call to Remember, Call to Action to end Domestic Violence

Forty-five minutes from now, at 12:00 Noon, individuals and groups all around Cumberland and Sagadahoc Counties are asked to pause from our activities and remember those whose lives have been lost to the scourge of domestic violence, and to commit ourselves to action that helps every member of every family in our communities to be safe in their own homes.  Here is an invitation, on behalf of the Campus Safety Project, Women and Community Center, and Interfaith Chaplaincy here at USM, to each of us to remember and act in the way to which we are best suited.

A Call to Remember, A Call to Action

On Wednesday, August 31, at noon please pause in silence for two minutes to honor the memory of Maine's recent domestic violence homicide victims. During those moments, know that the church bells or sirens you hear are being sounded to call the people of Maine to action, so that we no longer lose partners or family members to domestic violence.

A Call to Remember, A Call to Action is a statewide effort by domestic violence projects to mourn the continued loss of lives and to raise awareness that together we can stop domestic violence. Throughout the state, people will gather at noon to hear church bells, offer interfaith prayers, hold silence, and listen to community leaders speak about the actions that we all can take to end domestic violence.

Family Crisis Services' event will be held in Brunswick at the Gazebo on the Green near Maine Street at noon on August 31st and will last a half hour. All are welcome to join. If you can't join us, please listen for the bells and take a moment to reflect on how domestic violence affects the entire community and what action you can take, however small or large, to prevent it. Peace.
