AmeriCorps lives!

Celebrate with us as we rejoice that AmeriCorps and its parent organization, the Corporation for National and Community Service, has survived the latest round of Congressional budget cuts!  We rely heavily on full and part time AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps VISTA members to advance our work of civic engagement here at USM, addressing community need and providing important and valuable experience and learning for our students.  Hundreds of such positions in Maine leverage thousands of hours of important work in meeting critical community needs, while also providing jobs and experience to young adults who are recent college grads.  Many thanks to those who joined in contacting our Congressional delegation about the value of AmeriCorps in Maine!  Stay tuned, for the FY 2012 budget debate will almost certainly call this into question once again, but for now:  Celebrate!  Viva AmeriCorps!

Sincerely,
ATM
