This Week In Service

The semester is wrapping up but the show goes on at the Farmhouse. Here are this weeks service offerings and sneak peaks:

SMASH and Catholic Charities of Maine event ~ May 1st 1 pm - 3pm USM Portland Campus
Join us on the university Green this Saturday for a fun afternoon of outdoor activities and breaking bread with our neighbors. SMASH and CCM have organized a get together for all families being assisted by CCM in Portland. We'll need volunteers to help with some of the activities but mostly just to participate and become part of the community. Contact dabrown@usm.maine.edu for more info

Cultivating Communities Potatoes, Pancakes and Play ~ May 2nd 8 am - 1 pm, Turkey Hill Farm
Our friends at Cultivating Communities are preparing to plant their potato crops this Sunday out at their Cape Elizabeth location (Turkey Hill Farm, 120 Old Ocean House Road). Join them at 8 am for a $5 (potato?) pancake breakfast and then get stuck in planting potatoes, erecting pea fencing and clearing brush from 9 am - noon. For more info contact dcimato@usm.maine.edu

Parkside Neighborhood Center After School program ~ Monday - Thursday weekly
Parkside is looking for volunteers to support their after school programs for local kids and families. Help with homework, help serve a family meal and jump around at the Hip - Hop nights, its all fun and important work! Contact dabrown@usm.maine.edu for details.

Mural Restoration ~ May 7th 10 am - 3 pm
We'll be out in Gorham restoring the world famous mural created by USM students in the fall semester. Located at the back of the Goodwill store in Gorham (102 Main St) we'll spend the day re-touching the colors and weather proofing it for the summer. Contact dcimato@usm.maine.edu for more info.

Service Learning Wrap up and Celebration ~ May 10th, 211 Wishcamper from 12.00-1.30 pm
This is an opportunity for all Service Learning students and faculty to come together at the end of the semester and reflect on the experience. We will be serving Leonardo's pizza and beverages while fostering a great discussion on the value of your outstanding work. In addition we will be conducting a few interviews for the website!
