Current Community Volunteer Needs: Senior Companion & Triathlon Event

Senior Companion Request

A member of the Greater Portland community is looking for 2 or 3 volunteers to help out his sister, Leslie, a 60 year old woman who just recently had a stroke at the age of 58 and is currently staying at Cedars Nursing Home.  The nursing home takes care of most of her needs, she is just looking for someone to go over to keep her company, talk with her, read to her, etc.

Our office has put out volunteer companion requests like this to the campus community in the past and we have been so inspired by the response.

If you are interested in more details, please contact Craig Schiff at 215-410-2554.

Color Me Rad 5K is looking for volunteers! (Brunswick, ME)

This is a really fun event where you run a 5K starting off with a clean, white shirt and along the way get "color-bombed" (sprayed with colored paint) in a variety of ways.  And it's coming to Maine!  The coolest part is they're looking for volunteers to do the color-bombing.

From the website: "We need volunteers to help hand out registration packets to runners on August 14th and 15th (location TBA) and to throw color and hand out water on Race Day, August 16th at Brunswick Landing.  Must be 14 years old to volunteer."

Buddy Needed!

We are searching for a mature male who would like to check out museums and art shows, see movies, Red Claws and Sea Dogs games, hike, take pictures, play baseball and fish, while serving as a companion to Ryan!

Ryan is a 32 year old male who has a high functioning form of Autism. He loves to do all sorts of things, but needs someone to accompany him outside of his group home where he often gets bored. His mom says he is 'a real guy's guy' and easily relates to people. She finds it hard to make the 1.5 hour trip to see her son as often as she would like and really wants to find him a pal.

You would need your own transportation to Scarborough, but tickets for any events or outings would be paid for by his Mom. We would like someone who can make a commitment of once per week.

This is a great opportunity to meet someone new and have some Summer fun--email me if you are interested!
