Support Youth Leadership and Get Inspired!

Maine Youth Action Network is looking for volunteers at their 3rd annual Youth Leadership Summit. At this 2-day event students learn to find their voice and make an impact! You can support this and get inspired by their energy, here's how:

 

-Volunteer  ½ day of your time (up to 2 days or more) at the Augusta Civic Center on December 9th and 10th

-Help with customer service, taking pictures, workshop technology, providing first aid, etc.

This is a fantastic opportunity to network with youth and adults interested in supporting youth voice, gain skills and resources by attending workshops, and MYAN can assist with travel expenses. You can even connect with many organizations that offer a paid community service day.

Health & Wellness Expo - Volunteer at Registration with the Good Shepherd Food Bank

The 3rd Annual Health & Wellness Expo will take place on Sunday, November 3rd. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of healthy habits and personal wellness. There will be organizations present to answer questions about staying healthy, providing free screenings, handing out food samples, performing massages, a flu shot clinic, and more. Health professionals will give breakout seminars about today's "need to know essentials" to stay healthy. The Cooking Matters team from the Good Shepherd Food Bank will be outside doing healthy cooking demonstrations. The Good Shepherd Food Bank will be running the registration table and collecting food.

Who: 5 to 6 volunteers are needed
What: help at registration table and collect food
When: Sunday, November 3rd
1st Shift: 10:45 AM to 1:30 PM
2nd Shift: 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM

Volunteer by Carving Pumpkins!

Camp Sunshine is an organization based in Casco along Sebago Lake which provides retreats for children with life threatening illnesses and their families. Each year, Camp Sunshine organizes around 25 events, along with camps.

Camp Sunshine would like to invite you to serve as a volunteer at its upcoming event. Maine Mall's Spooktacular Event supporting Camp Sunshine is a great family fun event that helps raise funds and awareness for Camp Sunshine.

What: Help gut pumpkins, help families carve and display pumpkins, and help with face painting, etc.
When: Thursday, October 31st; volunteer from 9am-3pm or 3pm-9pm (for a minimum of 3 hours)
Where: Center Court near Sports Authority, Maine Mall
Why: To help raise funds and awareness for Camp Sunshine

Tutor High School Youth Starting in November!

Deering High School Study Center:

This is a safe, supportive environment open to all students (grades 9-12) in need of structured academic support. The students that utilize the center are in danger of not graduating due to failing grades and suffer from generational poverty with no academic safety nets. Volunteers are needed to tutor primarily reading and math (basic, algebra I, II, and geometry). The time commitment is one hour, once or twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for 2:15-3:15, beginning November 5th.

SPIRAL Arts, a community arts program in Portland is conducting a major downsizing of its arts and crafts supplies. Between now and October 31, they are looking for groups to volunteer to help sort and carry materials. Bonus: they also have many supplies to give away: paper, fabric, yarn, found objects, and more. STRIVE serves youth with developmental disabilities; their multi-faceted programming includes Friday night dances, an evening education series and the opportunity to take college-level classes at USM. They work to provide the youth the skills they need to integrate into society. STRIVE is looking for volunteers to help support their Annual Auction on October 16th -- opportunities are available throughout the day. LearningWorks is seeking individuals to serve as members of the LearningWorks-AmeriCorps AIMS HIGH program. AmeriCorps is a national service program that engages Americans of all ages and backgrounds in solving community problems. Members will complete 300 hours of service over the course of a year. Receive a $100 bonus, and after completing the 300 hours receive an education award of $1,175 to be put toward future school or qualified student loan debt. Members will be part of a very exciting school turnaround initiative in Maine; supporting student achievement at Riverton or East End Community School alongside 31 other members. Apply your energy, ideals, and skills toward helping others while meeting critical needs in your community. The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad is looking for volunteers to become Merry Elves for its Polar Express holiday event! As Elves, volunteers will deliver hot chocolate and cookies aboard this magical train and help Santa to give out the first gift of the season. This is a great way to give back to the community and have a fun volunteering experience. Come be a part of this enchanted journey! This family friendly 13-day event runs the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 29 through Dec. 23. The Train runs Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and Monday Dec 23. STRIVE's Annual Auction - October 16th

STRIVE is an organization which serves youth with with intellectual & emotional disabilities.; their multi-faceted programming includes Friday night dances, an evening education series, and the opportunity to take college-level classes at USM. They work to provide the youth the skills they need to integrate into society.

On Wednesday, October 16th, STRIVE will be hosting their Annual Auction.

When: 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Wednesday, October 16th
Where: Ocean Gateway on Commercial Street in Portland
What: Volunteers are needed for the following:
- set up (6:00 AM TO 6:00 PM)
- silent auction (watch table, answer questions, guide guests at closing, collect bid sheets, prepare winners' bags) (5:15 PM TO 9:30 PM)
- clean up (9:30 PM to Close)

Volunteer Elves needed for the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad=?UTF-8?Q?=E2=80=99s_?=Polar Express!

The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad is looking for volunteers to become Merry Elves for our Polar Express holiday event!
